Gone Girl (BBC Two, 10pm)
The 2014 psychological thriller written by Gillian Flynn. A former New-York based writer named Nick has settled in Missouri with his glamorous wife Amy, where they have presented a portrait of marital bliss to the public for nearly five years. When Amy goes missing on the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary, Nick becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance, resulting in a media frenzy that causes their marriage to crumble in front of the nation, as America begins to wonder what was going on behind closed doors.

As the sergeant insists that real policing is not as exciting as the movies, he begins to notice that the village’s low crime rate is offset by a suspiciously high accident rate. The pair’s investigation reveals the horrible truth about their tranquil rural idyll.
The X Factor (Virgin Media One, 8pm)
A brand new series of the talent show which searches for music’s next superstar. Simon Cowell introduces his brand new panel of judges, including Robbie Williams, his wife Ayda and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson. Tonight auditions kick off at the SSE Arena in Wembley, with hopefuls performing in front of a live audience.
